A Singapore-based user of Singapore Airlines' (SIA) membership programme, Krisflyer, got 'online shock' when he logged onto his Krisflyer account last week.

Raymond Liow wrote on Tuesday (21 February) in the Forum of the daily, The Straits Times, that when he logged onto his account on the airlines' website, he could read the full profile of another member.

"The profile revealed personal details like the member's identity card number, home address, employment details and contact numbers," he wrote.

Liow assumed that it was a temporary glitch. So, he logged out and logged in again. This time he was shown yet another profile of a different Krisflyer member.

In his letter, he complained that SIA does not protect the identity details of its customers with the justified degree of privacy. "What steps has SIA taken to rectify the problem and prevent a recurrence?" he asked in the Forum.

Whether this was an unusual glitch has not been clarified by SIA so far. This newspaper contacted SIA for comments on this online security lapse but the airline has not reverted to the queries yet.
