BLOG: Bridging the Gap between Fast LAN and Slow WAN

James Walker | Jan. 3, 2013
While we’ve seen great progress in application acceleration, there’s not yet a uniform and efficient way to optimise public Internet traffic.

The telecommunications industry is making some progress in tackling the issue, and some more sophisticated services are becoming available which allow point to point and any to any Ethernet services to be supplied on a single port, with the customer selecting which network topology, traffic priority and even route each packet takes through the network according to the requirements of the application. This allows the customer to achieve very precise control of the behaviour of the network, changing both the topology and routing (instead of just priority) of the traffic, whether it is for example voice, video, storage, trading or database traffic.
