Commentary on Singapore Budget 2016

Ang Thiam Guan (T.G.), Managing Director of Cisco Singapore and Brunei | March 29, 2016
Following the 2016 Singapore Budget, Ang Thiam Guan of Cisco shares his thoughts on what is important for businesses in Singapore to look out for this year.

Although the unemployment rate for Singapore remains considerably low, PMETs are struggling to find jobs at similar levels. This means the nation needs to step up our efforts to ensure that the entire Singapore workforce is employable. The government has been proactive in this space by matching displaced workers to new jobs and through the SkillsFuture initiative, which will help Singaporeans stay relevant throughout their careers.

While it may be challenging to find new jobs or learn new skills, the Singapore workforce needs to keep an open mind and remain adaptable to stay relevant - i.e. adopting a 'lifelong learning' attitude. Coupled with mobility and collaborative technologies that will redefine the Future of Workplace, employees will have greater flexibility and control over their learning journey while increasing their productivity at work. These technologies will empower employees to better manage their education, work and family commitments, allowing them to achieve an ideal work-life balance.
