Japan's V-cube targets 30% growth in Malaysia’s videoconferencing market

Japan's V-cube is set to increase its customer base in Malaysia by 30 percent, citing that the new release of its web-based video conferencing platform will help Malaysian SMEs overcome bandwidth and logistical challenges.

Speaking in Kuala Lumpur, V-cube Malaysia director Hiroki Murofushi said the new customers will mainly be Malaysian small and medium enterprises [SME], as well as organisations in the education, media and marketing sectors.

The new release of the solution - V-Cube One - was significant and in tune with the company's business objective of addressing the country's mid-sized markets, said Murofushi.

The company entered Malaysia in 2009 and its current local customers include banks, public universities, and manufacturers, he said. "Launching V-Cube One now is at a strategic timing to seize market opportunities as we are at a point whereby the demand for visual communication solutions in Malaysia is growing rapidly as per seen in last 18 months - primarily due to an increased usage of smart devices in country, and with a more distributed workforce."

Murofushi cited Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Video Conferencing Infrastructure Markets study, which expected the size of the video conferencing market in Asia to surpass US$490 million by 2017. "The business strategy to release new 'V-CUBE ONE' in Malaysia is in line with the company's regional expansion plan to capitalise on this growing market."

Increasing workforce mobility was helping to drive the growing videoconferencing market, he said. "Particularly, as the costs of travelling continue to escalate, local companies are forced to look for more cost, and time effective ways to conduct business. Adoption of web-based conferencing solutions is a natural decision - especially for those are expanding regionally, or have business scattered over multiple and remote locations."

 Lower bandwidth

"When compared with several global Web-based conferencing solution providers, V-cube solutions required significantly lower bandwidth from as low as 512kbps to conduct the same quality of high-definition visual communication," said Murofushi.

"This is a crucial advantage of V-cube that differentiates this video-conferencing solution," he said. "In fact, many companies today are not aware that Web-based visual connections depend heavily on larger bandwidth connectivity to work properly."

Media agencies in particular need to have a solid web-based conferencing experience as they tended to share large multimedia content, said Murofushi. "Whereas education institutions need to transfer high volume content via Internet for e-learning - but still need to deal with their bandwidth limitations."

"V-cube One allows companies to conduct conference, seminar, online training, and meeting real time on Internet at any time across multiple platforms seamlessly.  It is also available for cross-countries' communication," he said.

Founded in 1988 and listed on Tokyo Stock Exchange, V-cube also had presence in United States, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and China.
