- In the tradition of anything-as-a-service, Mahindra Satyam recently introduced a service that gives the workforce the flexibility to work from anywhere in a virtual desktop environment.
Working with industry partners, Mahindra Satyam is offering the Workspace-as-a-Service (WaaS), a hosted managed services solution where organisations can share desktops and applications that can be accessed from anywhere, anytime using any device.
The solution uses technologies from partners, such as the Citrix XenDesktop, Windows Server Hyper-V, application-level virtualisation enabled by Microsoft Application Virtualisation (App-V), and management provided by Microsoft System Center. The WaaS methodology is based on data from Liquidware Lab's tools and Mahindra Satyam's workspace transformation toolkit.
Mahindra Satyam said it is using Citrix' technology to enhance the user experience and provide users with flexible design options best suited to their requirements. Leveraging on Microsoft's virtualisation, orchestration and automation capabilities also allow organisations to deploy cloud solutions in the future.
David Jones, vice president, Citrix Systems, said that with the XenDesktop virtualisation technology, combined with an experienced delivery method, the WaaS solution meets the requirements of the enterprise for the next-generation, cost-effective desktop virtualisation.
Liquidware Labs added that their partnership with Mahindra Satyam "will allow us to extend the influence of our leading assessment and user experience management software."
"With the number of organisations migrating to a Windows 7 environment continuing to rise, it is essential for customers to establish that their desktop estate is fit for purpose. Liquidware Labs' software works perfectly as part of Mahindra Satyam's comprehensive methodology, allowing customers to cost-effectively plan, migrate, and manage their next-generation desktop infrastructure," said Sonja Pelichet, general manager, EMEA, ANZ, Liquidware Labs.
"Mahindra Satyam's Workspace-as-a-Service is aimed at helping customers move forward quickly and effectively in their deployment of desktop virtualisation," said Mike Schutz, senior director, Windows Server and Virtualization, Microsoft. "By using Microsoft's Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V, System Center, and App-V, Mahindra Satyam is giving customers proven technology for deploying and managing virtualised desktops and applications.
Customers will be working with a core team of solution architects from proof of concept to production to managed services delivery. Mahindra Satyam said the solution can be hosted on-premise or hosted in a dedicated infrastructure at a Mahindra Satyam-hosted data centre.
"We are excited to be working with Citrix, Microsoft and Liquidware Labs and evolve our WaaS solution," said Sudhir Nair, senior vice president, Infrastructure Management Services, Mahindra Satyam.
