KUALA LUMPUR, 8 JUNE 2010 -- An IT system that manages Haj pilgrimages is to be promoted overseas as a result of a joint venture with BI firm SAS Malaysia, according to Theta Edge, the IT arm of Malaysian government-linked company Lembaga Tabung Haji.
Formerly known as Lityan Holdings, Theta Edge's managing director and chief executive officer Nor Badli Mohd Alias said the partnership with business intelligence (BI) firm SAS Malaysia would help it export the system to overseas markets.
"[This will help] realise the commercialisation of the enhanced Hajj Application System, which will be extended to members of the Organisation of the Islam Conference (OIC), said Nor Badli. "The Hajj Application System is known as Enterprise Hajj Registration and Management (EHRAMS), was initially developed for Lembaga Tabung Haji."
EHRAMS will be enhanced with SAS Business Analytics which will empower Haj pilgrimage operators (such as Tabung Haji in Malaysia) to create a customer-centric, end-to-end value chain that improves efficiency and capabilities of the Haj pilgrimage process management, he said
Haj is a pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia that Muslims intend to perform at least once. Lembaga Tabung Haji is the government-linked company in Malaysia that assists Muslims in the country with Haj preparations.
Malaysia-based IT service provider Theta Edge (formerly known as Lityan Holdings) was established in 1984, and listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange [Bursa Malaysia] in March 1994. The group has evolved into a systems integrator, and advanced technology and telecommunications service provider.
Efficient, operating model
Nor Badli said: The operating model of the current Hajj Application System is already renowned to be one of the most efficient, well-managed and systematic Haj system. In fact, Tabung Haji is viewed as the benchmark for Haj operators in Muslim countries around the world for its Haj management services.
Theta Edge is confident that the enhanced version of the Web-based EHRAMS that is equipped with the much needed power of analytics will be very appealing as one of the most complete packaged solution to support Haj operators around the world, he said.
There is no complete packaged Haj application solution available anywhere around the world," Nor Badli said. "This offers a huge business opportunity for Theta Edge, in cooperation with SAS to commercialise a proven system with specialised application to a potential market size of more than 50 countries with an estimated US$1-2 million per sale.
Theta Edge has initiated introduction of EHRAMS to Indonesia, Bosnia and Turkey, and have received very encouraging response, he added.
SAS Malaysia is proud to be able to contribute the crucial part of analytics that makes EHRAMS stand above the rest," said SAS Malaysia head of alliance channel, Jonathan Lee. "EHRAMS can definitely be used to promote standardisation in operating procedures for all Muslim countries to ensure uniformity on the Haj processes across the world, and cement Theta Edge as the leading IT company and leading provider of an advanced, end-to-end Hajj Pilgrimage Management system.
