KUALA LUMPUR, 15 MARCH 2011 - Malaysian applied research agency MIMOS has won three Malaysia Good Design Mark (MGDM) Awards 2010 under the Industrial Product category for design and quality excellence.

"The awards are credited to the innovative in-house MIMOS Industrial Design team and will spur them to reach greater heights in their design work," said MIMOS president and CEO, Dato' Abdul Wahab Abdullah. "The awards underscore the innovativeness of MIMOS' technology platforms and are a testimony of MIMOS' capability in our technology platforms design and quality."

Wahab said the winning platforms were Agriculture Network Point Terminal - MIMOS Gateway 2.0, MIMOS WiWi Outdoor Access Point, and MIMOS Net Tablet.

He said Malaysia Good Design Mark (MGDM) was established in 1997 under the Malaysia Design Council to recognise design and quality excellence as well as recognise the research and development efforts of new products towards making Malaysia a net exporter of technology.

"The Agriculture Network Point Terminal - MIMOS Gateway 2.0, developed based on wireless sensor network technology, is a proven and robust system for precision agriculture," said Wahab. "Its design, incorporating unique styling grooves, portrays its trendy style and robustness to be used as an outdoor unit in a systematic agriculture formation."

"The second solution - MIMOS WiWi Outdoor Access Point - is the world's first hybrid wireless access router for WiMAX-WiFi Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) as a replacement for last mile connectivity," he said. "Its design was based on a minimalist design concept which is simple yet attractive for outdoor casing. It is durable, water-proof and dust-proof to endure various challenging environmental conditions."

"Thirdly, MIMOS Net Tablet is the first Malaysian version of a Tablet PC which redefines total mobility," said Wahab. "It is a thin, compact and light gadget designed with high quality, sleekness and exclusivity for a physical pleasure experience. It features a touchscreen making MIMOS' Net Tablet suitable to be used in environments which are not conducive to a keyboard and mouse or handling with a single hand. It also functions effectively as a dedicated reading device, or for typing, image manipulation or even for mouse-oriented games. The protruding and curved surface highlights the complexity of the design, while the random box speaker grill design reflects the digital age."
