MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 23 MARCH 2011 -- With more enterprise users accessing their e-mail and other office applications on the go, a cloud-based security provider is offering them some peace of mind.

Proofpoint is offering the Proofpoint Mobile family of applications for e-mail security, compliance and archiving solutions for popular mobile devices, such as the iPad, iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7 mobile devices.

The applications include the Proofpoint Mobile Encryption, Proofpoint Mobile Archive and Proofpoint Mobile Dashboard, all running on the Proofpoint CloudControl, a security and compliance platform.

Proofpoint Mobile Encryption addresses encryption and decryption security while the Proofpoint Mobile Archive offers mobile users access to years of e-mails, seemingly providing mobile device with additional storage space for the archived e-mails. The Proofpoint Mobile Dashboard is a tool for IT staff to manage and secure the infrastructure.

Securing enterprise networks

Research consultancy firm IDC said enterprises are currently challenged to secure the network where corporate users are allowed to access the enterprise network through mobile devices.

“Many enterprise security teams now regard cloud-based security technology as the best approach to provide effective security controls that allow non-corporate mobile devices to mix safely with enterprise networks, applications and data,” said Phil Hochmuth, program manager of IDC’s Security Products research group.

“Employees and executives are demanding the ability to use their personal consumer devices for work, and they are using them whether their company allows it or not. The Proofpoint Cloud Control platform is enabling mobile e-mail security and compliance, ensuring corporate IT can meet its requirements while allowing employees to utilise a new generation of consumer devices,” said Peter Galvin, chief marketing officer, Proofpoint.

“We recognise that security and compliance must be interwoven into any mobile initiative. Without it, costly data breaches and compliance violations will occur. Our cloud-based mobile applications will allow any enterprise to welcome consumer-based technology into its communications fold,” he added.

The applications are available now for free to existing Proofpoint users.
