Make no mistake, Big Data is coming to our region and soon. You can feel it just by looking at hard disk drive sizes, says CEO of Acronis, Serguei Beloussov.

Make no mistake, Big Data is coming to our region and soon. You can feel it just by looking at hard disk drive sizes, says CEO of Acronis, Serguei Beloussov.

How has Acronis performed in Singapore and in the region in the last two years?

Founded here in Singapore, Acronis actually first entered the Japan market in 2001. Quickly establishing technological leadership as a backup and disaster recovery solution provider, we worked hard to win market leadership through the APJ (Asia Pacific and Japan) region that contributes roughly 30 percent of Acronis revenue worldwide. I'm a citizen of Singaporean and APJ is a key business region for Acronis. Out of 80 people Acronis has in APJ now, 40 are located in Singapore.

We are also present in ANZ, Korea, Greater China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan as well as emerging markets in Asia South. Based on Fuji Kimera Soken research, Acronis is No.1 in full system backup market in Japan with over 50 percent market share, more than twice over the nearest competitor.

During the last two years, APJ region as a whole delivered over 20 percent YOY growth rate, better than other geographies. However, we see even more potential for growth in countries like Singapore and South Korea, and that's why we are going to invest more in the region, with the goal to accelerate growth to 50 percent plus YOY in coming years.

You are in backup and DR services. Have you seen any major shift in the market in terms of adoption or change in technology in this area?

Virtualisation, storage efficiency, BYOD and consideration of cloud-based IT services are some factors that are fueling the demand for the software in our market. While large enterprises can afford to operate expensive all-around data protection solutions from their traditional vendors, there is an increasing level of demand from medium-sized enterprises or branch offices for comparable level of data protection delivered in easy-to-use fashion. That means supporting Virtualization and Physical, Desktop and Server, On-premise and Cloud, Windows and Linux and Mac, Application and System and Files - same technologies as larger enterprises, but without a huge IT organisation to babysit them.

At Acronis, we have recognised this shift in demand, and we are focused on providing a complete solution for mid-market backup and disaster recovery needs. In fact, we are the only company in the market that delivers easy-to-use solutions that support all requirements listed above.

Where traditional large vendors continue to dominate large enterprise markets, they still leave us enough room for our best-in-class solutions for end-point backup, disaster recovery, deployment, branch & remote office and virtualisation - we have over 80 patents for advanced technologies helping us win the deals.
