A provider of cloud and hosting services has picked Singapore as the location of its regional data centre with connectivity to network points of presence (PoPs) also in Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
SoftLayer Technologies, a Dallas, Texas, U.S. provider of cloud, dedicated, and managed hosting, said setting up the data centre in Singapore is part of the company's expansion strategy into the region. The company said the strategy brings their services closer to their international clients which comprise almost half of their clientele.
The new data centre, designated as SNG01, went live this month and features more than 16,000 servers, redundant network infrastructure, fully-automated platform, and a unique pod design concept. The data centre and PoPs are connected via Tier-1 network carriers, including NTT, Tata, and Equinix. The AP sites are also connected directly to SoftLayer's facilities in San Jose and Los Angeles, U.S.
The data centre and PoPs are strategically located so that customers and users can connect to SoftLayer services with less than 40ms of latency, the company said.
"Everything we do is designed to give customers more control, and this expansion is no different," said George Karidis, chief strategy officer, SoftLayer. "New and existing customers across the region will now have direct access through the SoftLayer Private Network to our automated platform. They can manage and deploy their dedicated and cloud services on their own terms-whether that's in Singapore or in any of our other data centres. And they can provide an experience that's better than ever for their end-users in the region."
Another data centre in Amsterdam and other PoPs in Europe are scheduled for launch early next month. These new installations will bring SoftLayer's global network to total 13 data centres and 16 PoPs.
Each data centre can function independently with distinct and redundant resources, and integrated with all SoftLayer facilities.
SoftLayer said its global network fully integrates three distinct and redundant network architectures-public, private, and data centre to data centre-into the industry's first Network-Within-a-Network topology for maximum accessibility, security, and control.
