Increases interconnection capacity for global companies

Equinix is increasing interconnection capacity for global companies by launching new International Business Exchange (IBX) data centres in Singapore, New York, Melbourne, London and Toronto.

The Singapore data centre will be Equinix's largest data centre in Asia-Pacific.

All the new data centres will create more capacity for global companies to connect to their partners, customers and employees.

Equinix had to take this strategic step as businesses in Asia Pacific and across the world are demanding increasing levels of interconnection to improve business performance.

The New York data centre will serve financial, media and enterprise companies; Melbourne's facility marks entry into Australia; London and Toronto centres will serve the UK and Canadian market respectively.

"Equinix is the global interconnection platform for the world's leading businesses," said Steve Smith, president and CEO, Equinix. "Our rich history of interconnection, built over the last 16 years, makes us the ideal place for business to connect, and we believe that these five new data centres will provide even more ways for global businesses to innovate."

High level of interconnection

The level of interconnection required to thrive in the digital economy is increasing and this drives enterprises to work in tighter budgets, limited resources and security worries.

Equinix is interconnecting people, locations, clouds and data to enable new business models and enhance productivity in organisations.

The company will launch these five new data centres for a total investment of US$227 million thereby increasing the scale of Platform Equinix by more than 10 percent.

All these five locations of data centres are epicentres for global data and communication flow.

"Box is proud to partner with Equinix to support infrastructure growth and scalability," said Dan Levin, COO, Box. "Equinix provides the benefit of interconnection with other enterprises through their platform, and increased WAN performance that enables productivity in an age where cloud and mobile dominate the workplace."
