The Hong Kong office will begin operations with a team of half a dozen local staff across marketing solutions, hiring solutions and marketing.

LinkedIn has opened its ninth office in Asia Pacific in Hong Kong, announced the world's largest professional network with more than 150 million members.

The Hong Kong office will begin operations with a team of half a dozen local staff across marketing solutions, hiring solutions and marketing.

The establishment of a local presence in Hong Kong reflects the company's continued growth in Asia Pacific over the past year, said the professional networking site in a statement today.

According to the networking site, LinkedIn's Hong Kong office will support close to half a million LinkedIn members living in the territory and the millions of LinkedIn members in the North Asia region.

It will also act as a driver for the company's growth, providing LinkedIn Hiring Solutions, Marketing Solutions and Premium Subscriptions, said LinkedIn.

Hong Kong will be LinkedIn's 25th office globally. In May 2011, LinkedIn opened its regional headquarters in Singapore. It also opened offices in Bengaluru, Melbourne, Perth and Tokyo, and introduced local language sites in Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Japanese and Korean in 2011. LinkedIn has over 25 million members in Asia Pacific.

Why Hong Kong?

"With more than 2,400 regional company offices and over 1,300 regional headquarters, Hong Kong's skilled talent base and reputation as a leading international centre of finance and business make it an important market for LinkedIn given our aim is to connect the world's talent with opportunity," said Arvind Rajan, LinkedIn managing director and vice president, Asia Pacific and Japan.

"We are thrilled to be expanding our footprint in the region at a time when professionals in Hong Kong are placing a growing emphasis on social media. LinkedIn offers an unprecedented way for professionals to get access to local and international contacts, expertise and opportunities," he added.

Some companies in the region are already using LinkedIn for executive hiring. For example, Walmart recruited and hired their Asian e-commerce leadership team in just six weeks using a product called LinkedIn Recruiter. Other companies that use LinkedIn Hiring Solutions locally include Standard Chartered Bank and recruiting agencies like RGF Executive Search.

Marketers and brands such as Cathay Pacific Airways, Samsung Mobile and Microsoft are already using LinkedIn Marketing Solutions to develop direct and lasting relationships with the world's professionals to drive business results, said a LinkedIn spokesperson.
