"Domains like .shop will have huge global appeal - so selling Web addresses to local businesses is just the start of the revenue opportunities. If you included the sale of premium, highly sought-after names like malls.shop or bookings.hotel which could be auctioned for tens of thousands of dollars, you're talking multimillion-dollar annual revenues from a global customer base," said Kinderis.
Aside from industry-specific TLDs, other new domain names that are of interest to the SMBs are the non-Latin international domain names (IDNs) for such languages as Chinese or Arabic.
The popular IDNs for Singapore SMBs are Chinese (80 percent), Japanese (15 percent), Korean (three percent), Thai (one percent) and Malay (one percent).
