CommScope increases capacity at the cell site

Introduces comprehensive antenna solution for boosting wireless network site capacity.

A new, comprehensive antenna solution from CommScope is allowing wireless operators to significantly increase capacity at the cell site.

Part of the Andrew portfolio of wireless solutions, the Six Sector Solution leverages advanced antenna technology to simplify site acquisition and installation.

CommScope's antenna solution enables the use of three antennas where six were previously needed but provides almost twice the capacity and increases the gain of each sector by 3 dB (decibel).

Eventually this results in better building penetration and lowers interference for higher data throughput.

"The Six Sector Solution is an excellent way to significantly increase capacity by enabling the evolution of a traditional three sector site to a higher capacity, six sector site with the use of only three antennas," said CommScope's Philip Sorrells, vice president of strategic marketing, Wireless.

Sector sculpting

The Six Sector Solution is based on the concept of sector sculpting that shapes antenna pattern to deliver more capacity and provides additional benefits such as improved coverage and limited interference.

"We believe that increasing network capacity with a relatively simple antenna system upgrade is a great near term investment," added Sorrells. "Our solution provides a practical way to quickly deploy sector-splitting without additional antenna faces."

Sector sculpting boosts network performance, and radiate multiple, tightly defined RF patterns from one antenna unit.

Today service providers are constantly dealing with challenges associated with limited spectrum and increasing demands for bandwidth, and Sorrells notes that sector sculpting will enable operators to improve performance at their cell sites.

Looking forward, CommScope will expand the Six Sector Solution into a complete product and services offering suitable for use by operators all across the world.
