SINGAPORE, 04 MAY 2009 Singapore-based telecommunications giant SingTel has won a contract worth A$500 million (US$367.7 million), which will see it providing Australian financial institution ANZ with telecommunications and managed network services over the next five years.
The contract will see SingTel and its subsidiary Optus Networks service ANZ in Australia and 30 countries across the Asia Pacific, including ANZ's technology and operations centre in Bangalore, India.
SingTel is expected to provide a single platform for voice, data and managed services for 34,000 ANZ staff; which includes the deployment of more than 20,000 IP telephones and 40 video conferencing units across the region.
In Australia, Optus is expected to manage ANZ's call centre infrastructure as well as roll out a new data network for the financial institution's 850 retail branches.
With SingTel's support, we also have the potential to introduce new technologies such as advanced video conferring facilities to allow greater collaboration for our staff and, over time, to look at other option such as the use of video conferencing to give branch customers in remote locations the ability to talk to our banking specialists, said David Cartwright, managing director, operations, technology and shared services, ANZ Group.
