Telstra's fixed-line domain threatened

Dominic White and Tracy Lee | March 24, 2009
SingTel Optus could control 25 per cent of Australia's $17 billion fixed-line telecommunications market within six years if its bid for the $10 billion-plus national broadband network succeeds.

"The NBN company will not have any retailing capacity, so if it's just a network company that means any retail share changes aren't because of that company but because someone else steps up their efforts in both cities and country towns," he said.

"It's not just a network rollout that will change customers' [habits]; it's also the ability to service those customers, and Telstra has invested heavily in its retailing capacity."
