HP offers ‘thin’ storage guarantee

Veronica C. Silva | May 23, 2011
Customers who upgrade to the HP 3PAR storage solutions qualify for the thin guarantee program.

Thin is in - even in IT. Less is the promise of HP for its storage solutions - less footprint, less power consumption and, of course, less expenses - under its HP Get Thin Guarantee Program.

HP guarantees that organisations can reduce their storage capacity requirements by as much as 50 per cent or even more if they replace their legacy storage with a HP 3PAR Utility Storage, including the related software. If the reduction does not happen, HP said it would give customers additional disk capacity and related software equal to the difference.

HP's confidence in delivering the promise rests in the 3PAR "thinning" capability based on the silicon-based thin processing mechanism in the hardware. Together with the HP 3PAR Thin Conversion Software, the thinning mechanism "thins" the storage volumes by identifying and eliminating unused pockets of disk capacity.

This results in lesser storage volumes which lead to lesser storage footprint and power consumption. The mechanism also reduces storage administration time by as much as 90 per cent, HP said.

"Clients are looking to the next generation of storage arrays to curb data centre sprawl and reduce both capital and operating expenses," said Tom Joyce, vice president, marketing, storage, HP. "The HP Get Thin Guarantee Program allows clients to very quickly experience the significant difference that deploying highly virtualised storage can make in the enterprise."

HP said the program is available worldwide through HP or any of its channel partners.
