NetApp partners with Integrasi Erat to offer virtualised solutions

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 OCTOBER 2009 A new partnership should help halve storage costs of the Malaysian public sector by up to 50 per cent, according to storage firm NetApp Malaysia.

The partnership with Integrasi Erat aims to reduce storage usage and ultimately, costs of Malaysian public sector by up to 50 per cent, according to NetApp Malaysia country manager, Mano Govindaraju.

Govindaraju said NetApp will work with local distributor Integrasi Erat to help government agencies manage explosive data growth by simplifying the complexities of data management.

Selling storage hardware and software in the public sector space requires a deep understanding of the market and the solutions that are most appropriate for the customer's needs, said Integrasi Erat chief executive officer, Zulkifli Mohamed, who added that he is confident the company would extend its current base of 40 customers to 52 customers, a 30 per cent increase, by year-end with the new partnership.

Customers in the public sector will see that NetApp sophisticated storage-efficiency technologies such as thin provisioning, deduplication, RAID-DP, and Snapshot can help realise space savings of up to 50 per cent in a virtualised environment, compared to traditional storage, said Govindaraju.

Public sector spending IT in Malaysia

The public sector has been the major contributor to NetApp's storage business in Malaysia in the last three years, with at least a 25 per cent contribution, said Govindaraju.

He cited as analyst firm Springboard Research's estimate that public sector IT spending in Malaysia crossed US$1 billion in 2009, accounting for 21 per cent of total IT spending in Malaysia.

Getting the right information to the right people at the right time is crucial to ongoing government operations, Govindaraju said. Together with our partners Cisco Systems and VMware, NetApp offers a sophisticated array of simplified storage and data management solutions that give governments the ability to consolidate, unify and share information across systems, geographies and organisational boundaries while providing fast access to that information, internally, as well as externally.
