Strong demand from cloud and financial services markets drives expansion.

Equinix announced that it is investing an additional US$50 million into the construction of phase two of its third Sydney International Business Exchange data centre.

According to the company, high demand from the cloud and financial services markets has spurred the expansion six months ahead of schedule. More than 60 new customers have already leveraged the third data centre for their services, said Equinix in a media statement issued today (3 April).

“Responding to increased demand from the cloud and financial services community, we’re committed to make an additional 1,000 cabinets in (the third data centre) available as early as September 2012,” said Tony Simonsen, country manager, Equinix Australia, in the statement.

Equinix also announced that three of its Sydney data centres have passed the external audit ISO 27001, the highest global standard for information security.
