Nexmo reports 100 percent volume growth

The fast-growing cloud communications disrupter logged in 2.8 billion API calls in the last 12 months

Provider of API tools to companies such as Airbnb, Alibaba , Line, Viber, and WeChat, Nexmo has stated the New Year with 100 percent volume growth with 2.8 billion API calls in the last 12 months. This is 85% revenue growth from 2013, when it had 1.4 billion API calls.

The cloud communications company announced this recently in its 2014 results.

Nexmo provides innovative communication APIs that bridge traditional voice and text services with cloud communications.

According to Tony Jamous, CEO, Nexmo, the fast growing London-Silicon Valley startup has grown to over 100 employees and its services are now being used by over 80 percent of the successful over-the-top (OTT) apps in the market today. Last year, it had only 30 employees. It has global reach to 239 countries and territories around the world. Nexmo works with 1,820 telecom carrier networks globally, up from 1,700 earlier this year.

Some of the new clients that Nexmo has added to its list includes L'Oréal Deutschland GmbH, Mozilla, NetApp, SaS, Thomson Reuters, United Nations, Voyage-group and Zipcar.

"Traditional communication platforms have high setup costs, including expensive equipment for voice communications, and lengthy contracts with carriers or aggregators for SMS communications," said Jamous. "Conversely, cloud communications offerings combine the benefits of the cloud with the easy integration provided by APIs. We see 2015 as a groundbreaking year for the mobile messaging and cloud-based communications industry with exciting potential. Driven by improved quality-of-delivery, global reach, and local knowledge, we forecast broad adoption of cloud offerings next year."

Launch of Nexmo Verify

The second half of 2014 also saw the launch of Nexmo Verify, the company's new global phone number verification and fraud prevention solution. Verify delivers vastly improved user acquisition and retention capabilities to developers and enterprises, as well as a better end-user experience, in a global market where phone numbers are becoming the main identifier for users, said Jamous.

Appointment of Trevor Healy 

Nexmo has also recently appointed Singapore-based mobile and communications veteran Trevor Healy to its Board of Directors as Executive Chairman. Healy also now leads Nexmo's corporate development team and is charged with enterprise value creation, managing key industry relationships and will also be instrumental in identifying strategic investments and acquisitions.

Healy was recently Chief Executive Officer of Amobee, a digital advertising company, which was acquired by Singtel. Previously, he was Chief Innovation Officer and a Board Director of Telefónica Europe PLC. Prior to that, Healy was CEO of Jajah Inc., which was acquired by Telefónica. Before leading Jajah Inc., Healy was a General Manager and Vice President at PayPal Inc., a division of eBay Inc. As a general manager and vice president at VeriSign Inc., which was acquired by PayPal, he spearheaded the move for online shopping while helping to establish the VeriSign "check mark" as the most recognizable, trusted brand online.
