RightScale’s Spring ServerTemplate Showdown Winners Announced

Prizes awarded by the cloud technology vendor to customers that submitted original, relevant and useful ServerTemplates.

Cloud computing management specialists at RightScale, Inc. announced today the winners of its Spring 2011 ServerTemplate Showdown: Integral R and D, So-net Entertainment Corporation and Practical IT Consulting. The three were named winners for their contribution of “innovative and useful ServerTemplates to the RightScale MultiCloud Marketplace,” which the company launched in May this year as “a clearing house for ready-to-run, customizable software designed according to best practices for launching and managing servers in the cloud.”

RightScale ServerTemplates are templates for configuring and dynamically provisioning cloud servers, and by definition help user organisations “cut costs and reduce their time to market when building cloud deployments while also maintaining the ability to customize them for their business needs and run them across multiple cloud environments—both public and private,” according to a press release issued by the RightScale Tuesday (August 2).

The Winners
Held in the months leading up to the RightScale User Conference, the ServerTemplate Showdown is meant to encourage the vendor’s customers and partners to contribute to the RightScale community. And the templates that were most original, relevant and useful to the community naturally win, according to RightScale executives.

“ServerTemplates are the heart of RightScale’s automated cloud management and contributions from our users provide a barometer for the growth and activity that is migrating to the cloud,” said RightScale CEO Michael Crandell. “We continue to be impressed by the community’s ability to develop and contribute compelling technologies and we especially want to congratulate Integral R and D, So-net Entertainment Corporation and Practical IT Consulting for their winning submissions. We look forward to seeing what our users will contribute next.”

Integral R and D took the “Most Useful and Best in Show” for its Joomla 1.6 LAMP All-In-One ServerTemplate, So-Net Entertainment Corporation took the “Most Innovative” for Hadoop CDH2, and Practical IT Consulting the “Most Popular Practical” for Drupal v7.0 All-In-One Nginx Edition. The winning templates can be found at the RightScale MultiCloud Marketplace.
