VMware launches unified platform for both public and private cloud

Vendor claims it as an industry first.

VMware Inc. has announced the launch of a platform which it claims is the industry's first unified platform of virtualised compute, networking and storage for the hybrid cloud.

A press statement by the Silicon Valley-based IT vendor said the new platform will enable customers to create one consistent environment across the public and private cloud to run, protect and manage any cloud-native or traditional application.

It added the new platform also offers customers openness and choice in how to build and manage their applications and cloud environments based on their specific needs.

Solutions making up the platform include VMware Sphere 6, VMware Integrated Open Stack, VMware VirtualSAN 6 and vSphere Virtual Volumes and VMware vCloudAir Hybrid Marketing Services powered by VMware NSX.

The unified platform includes advanced virtualization support for developers and system administrators, according to the press statement.

It said the new platform is expected to available this Q1 2015.
