HP has a new range of office inkjet printers out, and they've got something worth mentioning -- ridiculously fast print speeds.

The printer line-up is called OfficeJet Pro X. There will be four Pro X printers available in Australia - the HP OfficeJet Pro X451dn and X551dw single-function printers, and the HP OfficeJet Pro X476dn and 576dw multifunction models.

HP claims twice the speed at half the cost -- half the cost of a laser printer, and twice the speed of a regular inkjet printer. The printers are based on HP's PageWide technology, and the company says we should expect print speeds of up to 70 pages a minute -- that's over a page a second, which should make running off log print jobs a simple process.

HP's PageWide technology moves the paper around in the printer, while the print-head remains stationary. This is a much quieter process than a regular inkjet printer as well as being faster. It also means the printer is able to deposit all four pigment inks -- black, cyan, magenta, yellow -- at once for a more consistent print.

Even the cheapest OfficeJet Pro X printers can have 50,000 pages put through them in a month, although HP suggests a more conservative 500 to 3,000 sheets is recommended. The printers are compatible with HP's ePrint, Apple's AirPrint, Google Cloud Print and HP's ePrint Mobile apps.

A 500-sheet A4 paper tray means you can load an entire ream of paper at once -- no need to store excess sheets somewhere where they can be crumpled or damaged. You can also buy an additional 500-sheet input tray to store a second entire ream of paper. The printers can handle up to 300 sheets of paper on the output tray at once.

All four models have built-in Ethernet networking, but the premium single- and multifunction models also have 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Every Pro X printer has an automatic duplex feeder that lets you print on both sides of an A4 page.

HP's OfficeJet Pro X printer series is now shipping worldwide. The cheapest single-function, the OfficeJet Pro X451dn, is $599, and the cheapest multifunction is $799.
