KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian communications provider DiGi Telecommunications (DiGi) pays tribute to 16 winners of its WWWoW Awards, which received 5,192 nominations and 228,588 votes.

According to DiGi head of marketing services Sulin Lau, the DiGi WWWoW Awards website recorded more than 520,000 visitors and 2.6 million page views in a two-month period.

"The idea behind holding the awards was for all of us to celebrate the Internet in Malaysia," said Lau. "At DiGi, we wanted to pay tribute to ordinary Malaysians who are doing extraordinary things online - from publishing their own opinions, producing their own TV shows, starting new businesses, or mobilising the power of the Internet for good causes."

"With 16 different categories of participants (details of winners are at, the submissions that we have received and seen have shown us how creative Malaysians can be," she said. "We've seen a lot of amazing submissions from stay-at-home mothers to college students, from pre-teens right up to above-45 Internet users. This clearly shows that the Internet is a tool that can be used by anyone from any walk of life. Looking at our list of winners at this event finale, everyone can see that the Internet is a powerful tool not just to spark interest from the public but also to harness that interest into action."

She said the DiGi WWWoW Awards was a  collaborative project with ASTRO,,, Google, Yahoo, MSN, Nuffnang,, Malaysia Airlines,, Flickr, Karangkraf,, Exabytes, Innity and the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA). Winners were nominated and voted for by Malaysian netizens.
