A new Top Level Domain (TLD),.GLOBAL, has been launched.
This new TLD has been designed to counteract the saturated domain name market, which places rapidly expanding Asian enterprises at a huge disadvantage, according to a official statement from the TLD company.
.GLOBAL will allow growing organisations to expand internationally using their preferred brand, creating a level playing field to compete against those in Europe and North America.
"Companies in Asia had previously found themselves at a disadvantage as their rivals in Europe and America acquired the best domain names early, forcing them to pay extortionate prices on the second hand domain market," said Rolf Larsen, CEO at .GLOBAL. ".GLOBAL is here to re-open naming opportunities for Asian businesses who want to become global and spur innovation across the internet."
Domain registrars worldwide will offer the choice of .GLOBAL domains to new and existing customers, the domain name provider has announced. There will be premium names for a select group of high-value generics and business terms, which will be priced separately and released via an auction system provider.
GLOBAL will open for trademark holders to register their names on July 9, 2014. .GLOBAL names will be open for public registration in September 12, 2014.
