Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation (MyClear), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank Negara Malaysia, has appointed Peter Schiesser as its new managing director to manage the company's online processes including national cheque clearing system and real-time interbank transfers.
MyClear chairman, Dato' Ooi Sang Kuan, said: "Mr Schiesser has extensive experience in banking, information technology and payment systems as well as a proven track record of delivering outstanding business results. We are confident he has the vision and capabilities to lead MyClear and accelerate the adoption of e-Payments in Malaysia."
Speaking about his new role, Schiesser said: "Malaysia is moving into a new era where technological advancements will offer more convenient, secure and cost-effective means for making payments and moving funds compared to traditional paper-based means such as cash and cheques," said MyClear's Schiesser.
"Increasing the adoption of e-Payments is essential to improve the nation's efficiency and competitiveness and to support the continued development of the economy," he said. "I am truly excited with the challenge to drive and accelerate the migration to e-Payments in Malaysia. I look forward to working closely with industry stakeholders and leading the MyClear team in developing the nation's payment systems infrastructure."
Schiesser has held various key positions with the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) and prior to joining MyClear, Schiesser served in a general management capacity with Vietnam-based bank Sacombank.
Incorporated in October 2008, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank Negara Malaysia (the national bank) Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation (MyClear) provides the national e-Payments, Funds Transfer, Settlement and Debt Securities infrastructure to serve the needs of financial institutions, corporations and individuals. By value, 99 percent of all non-cash payments / funds transfer in Malaysia pass through systems operated by MyClear.
