Deepavali digital drive to support children's homes: Maxis, LINE in Malaysia

Maxis and LINE invite Malaysians to 'Share the Light,’ which will allow donations to 10 selected children's homes around the country.

To celebrate Deepavali, telecom Maxis and messaging provider LINE have invited Malaysians to digitally donate in a campaign that will run until 31 October 2014: for every viewing of 'Share the Light' video and download of complimentary stickers from LINE, Maxis will donate RM1 [US$0.31] to 10 selected children's homes around the country.

After the campaign ends, another set of free LINE stickers will be given as a sign of appreciation to all participating Maxis and Hotlink customers, said Maxis head of customer management, CK Koay, who added that the campaign is not limited to Maxis customers only. More than 10 million LINE users are being invited to be a part of this 'Share The Light' programme.

"Often, people want to do their bit for charity but are constrained by time and resources," said Koay. "For the upcoming Deepavali festive season, we are making it easier for our customers to do this by going digital. It is a simple gesture on our part to create awareness and at the same time brighten up the lives of the less fortunate children around the country. We hope to get as many people sharing these stickers so that we can make a positive impact to the lives of those who truly need it."

He said to be part of this campaign:

  • Watch and Share the specially made YouTube video at www.maxis.com.my/deepavali or on YouTube
  • Download the LINE Deepavali stickers (new users will have to download and register for LINE before they can download the sticker)

Koay said that as part of this campaign, Maxis produced a short video by interviewing the children in various homes to find out their Deepavali wishes.
