U.S. networking solutions firm NETGEAR has introduced the first 'Intelligent Edge Switches' worth less than RM3,000 (US$992.90) in Malaysia, said the company.
NETGEAR ASEAN regional director Soo Kean Thai, speaking in mid February 2012, said that the new family comprised four new 12 and 24-port NETGEAR ProSafe Gigabit L2+ Managed Switches with PoE+ (power over Ethernet) connectivity.
"This new 'Intelligent Edge' switch family simplifies the area of converged networks, making it a perfect option for organisations requiring intelligence at the network's edge," said Soo, adding that the new switch family is cost-effective for voice, video and data networking solutions.
"Many IP telephony and IP camera operations are still limited to Fast Ethernet switching, because Gigabit and PoE+ offerings are cost-prohibitive," he said. "Underscoring our commitment to smart IT (not big IT), the NETGEAR 'Intelligent Edge' can now provide reliable, affordable and simple Gigabit technology backed with lifetime support."
Soo said the new gigabit PoE switch family offered the world's first distribution switch with 12-port fibre and PoE+ capability, as well as:
- The world's most affordable switch with PoE pass-through capability.
- Automatic IP phone recognition.
- Optimised real-time video streaming support.
- The world's first selectable mini-USB console interface.
- Layer 2+ support
- Support for SNMP (simple network management protocol) management software.
