Former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has received the ICT Lifetime Achievement award from Malaysian national ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) for his contributions to the country's ICT industry.
The award was presented by PIKOM chairman Woon Tai Hai during PIKOM's 25th anniversary dinner held recently in Kuala Lumpur. Also present were Science, Technology & Innovation minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili and Tun Dr Mahathir's wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
"Tun Dr Mahathir has been instrumental to the phenomenal growth of the country's ICT industry," said PIKOM's Woon. "Through his leadership and vision, we are now reaping the fruits of the labour seeded during his premiership."
"Tun's far-sightedness in recognising the pivotal role of ICT in the development of Malaysia has paid off very well," he said. "The ICT Lifetime Achievement Award is PIKOM's way of honouring Tun for all that he has accomplished in the ICT arena."
Close to 1,000 guests from the ICT industry and representatives from government agencies attended the 25th anniversary dinner.
