From legacy to RFID

Madura McCormack | Dec. 21, 2012
Traditional Chinese medicine retailer adopts RFID in hopes of modernising business space

The improvements made in stock handling and distribution has allowed the retailer to relocate 11 percent of existing floor space to retail consignment, generating further rental income for the business.

According to Yu, the normally 'technophobic' employees were initially resistant.

"The solution required minimal training and has won the acceptance of our ageing workforce," he said.

Yue Hwa operates an online store, three retail shops in Singapore and 16 departmental and specialty stores in Hong Kong.

With the benefits and encouraging results taken away from the initial deployment, Yu plans to continue the RFID implementation with the internal distribution network, followed by Singapore and the remaining Hong Kong warehouses.
