Groupon Malaysia and Maybank join forces

Maybank expects 20 percent increase in online payment transactions compared to last year.

Social marketing company Groupon Malaysia has signed a partnership with Malaysia financial services provider Maybank to provide exclusive offers to users of the online banking platform, [M2U].

Under the agreement announced on 17 August 2011, 'Maybank2u-Groupon Exclusive Offers' will be made available to M2U users, said Maybank deputy president & head of community financial services, Lim Hong Tat. "Presently online purchases are growing at a rapid pace. We are projecting a 20 percent increase in the number of payment transactions made compared to the same period last year. This projection is testament to the continuous efforts we are making to adopt even more advanced online technologies and to reward our customers for selecting Maybank2u as one of the preferred payment gateways."

"In addition, this is a clear indication that we are growing our e-channel offerings in line with the growing opportunities and leveraging benefits generated by the digital economy such as Groupon," Lim said.

"We are extremely pleased to partner with one of the most renowned global Internet brands today to offer added value to our customers," he said.


 Milestone for Groupon Malaysia

"Today's partnership is a tremendous milestone for Groupon Malaysia as we are now able to extend the excitement of group buying to the 1.74 million active M2u users of Malaysia's largest online banking portal,," said Groupon Malaysia chief executive officer, Joel Neoh.

Neoh said the 'Maybank2u-Groupon Exclusive Offers' provided users with access to a range of exclusive Groupons with brands such as Carcosa Seri Negara Hotel, S2 Slimming, Readers Digest, Decleor, Photobook International, Konsortium Transnasional, Pensonic and others. "In addition to the customary value savings of a traditional Groupon, customers who purchase any of the special deals on will enjoy a discount of up to 10 percent off Groupon prices. users will also benefit from special preview access to Groupon items and services, allowing them to select their preferred deals up to one week ahead of the general public launch."

Founded in Chicago in November 2008, Groupon is present in more than 45 countries and 500 markets worldwide, with more than 83 million subscribers. The Groupon Malaysia membership base is currently more than 700,000.
