Group buying portal Groupon has promoted its former Malaysia head of sales, Rafiq Razali, to the role of country general manager with effect from 1 January 2013.

Speaking on 17 January 2013, Groupon Malaysia chief executive officer, Joel Neoh, said: "Rafiq has been a core member of the Groupon team since joining us in 2011 and has been influential in overseeing the implementation of some of our most successful product offerings, such as our wildly popular Groupon Getaways travel deals as well as our National segment deals. I am confident that he will continue to be a key asset to our business development here in Malaysia."

In his new role, he will be responsible for the oversight of Groupon Malaysia's Sales, Operations and People Development portfolios with the aim of further reinforcing the company's position as Malaysia's leading social e-commerce platform," said Neoh.

"I am delighted to have this opportunity to further build upon the success of Groupon which has reinvigorated business opportunities for entrepreneurs throughout the country and opened up so many amazing new experiences and opportunities to Malaysians of all ages," said Rafiq.

Razali is a first-class honours graduate in actuarial science from Pennsylvania State University, and has business development experience, gained while working with multinational corporations both here in Malaysia and in the US.
