IDC highlights areas to focus on to spur ICT growth in the Philippines

Adrian M. Reodique | May 4, 2016
Even though the country’s momentum towards ICT adoption is on its upward track, the growth path maybe dwarfed by short-sighted and drastic strategies, says IDC.

In line, the next administration should create an effective government funding to help local startups succeed; as well as, craft a pro-business and startup-friendly nation through providing legal certainty, low-tax system, and a ready available workforce.

  • Improve peace and order in the country. The next president must work on addressing the peace and order in the country especially in Mindanao. According to IDC, Mindanao is a fast-growing region in terms of population and economy-which is driven by the booming manufacturing and BPO industry. Improving peace and order in this region will help boost the confidence of foreign investors.
  • Putting ICT on the forefront of government agenda. The research firm urges the next administration to bring the usage and adoption of ICT at the forefront of its operations moving forward. "Digital transformation (DX) in the Philippine government does not only improve the delivery of government services but also democratizes the public's access to national affairs. Greater ICT adoption by the next administration will help the country keep its growth momentum moving forward," said Alberto.
