Hiring in the telecoms and media industries is about to increase again, according to employment services company ManpowerGroup.

The second quarter will see a 4 percent increase in positive recruitment activity, coming after a 3 percent increase in the first quarter, said ManpowerGroup.

It said jobs are being created across the sector, but with the main hirings on the infrastructure side, where companies are looking to take on staff for the continued rollout of high speed broadband, and also to cope with the disruption caused by the recent bout of bad weather.

The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey is based on responses from 2,100 UK employers across all industries. It asks whether employers intend to hire additional workers or reduce the size of their workforce in the coming quarter.

"The sector trends that have been developing over the last year remain as 4G expansion and the continued roll out of super-fast broadband continue to create jobs for the sector," said Tobias Mills, ManpowerGroup sector director for telecoms and media.

"Mobile operators are concentrating on the expansion of their respective 4G offerings with a particular focus on the IT professional space, and we expect this to create demand down the line for candidates with media content and production experience, as partnerships between operators and content providers develop," said Mills.

The demand for customer service and sales staff is also "strong" in the sector, ManpowerGroup said.
