Motivated people are the key: Tim Miller, CEO of Rally Software

Zafar Anjum | April 21, 2014
Motivated people who want to come to work are the key to solving some of the world’s toughest problems, says Tim Miller, CEO of Rally Software, in this interview.

Rally was founded with a simple and powerful premise - to help our customers to innovate at scale, using Agile and Lean approaches.  Today, faster product release cycles, industry disrupting products and shifting customer expectations are forcing companies to be more nimble and to respond more quickly to shifting consumer demands and competitive market changes. Rally's solutions are well aligned to support the changing needs of the business, and help customers to accelerate the pace of innovation, improve productivity, and respond to evolving competitive markets and customer needs.

You are expanding your business in the APAC region. What opportunities do you see here?

Asia Pacific has seen tremendous growth and adoption of information technology. According to the Gartner Market Databook (4Q13), the Asia Pacific IT Enterprise Application Software market outlook for 2015 is US$16.9 million (up from US$15 million in 2014) -- and we believe this growth will continue to accelerate.

Asia Pacific communities have piloted Agile for about 10 years with successful field implementations in software development, web applications, and in various enterprise management areas. In recent years, we have seen an accelerated increase in Agile adoption. Now, with the pace of innovation in enterprise companies accelerating more quickly, organisations are embracing solutions that increase overall business agility and enable the business to meet the demands of a rapidly changing market and to remain competitive. Rally's growth in Singapore is in strong response to in-market demands as companies look at how to scale Agile on an organisational level where truly transformative journeys will unravel.

We are excited to be in the heart of Asia as enablers and active partners of the Agile transformation, and look forward to working with organisations as they realise the benefits of their Agile teams' fast-paced delivery, and scale the process across many functions of the business. To serve our global customer base in this region, with direct access to our services and solutions, we established our Singapore office in July 2013. Additionally, we've brought in the strong leadership of Bryan Tan as Regional Vice President of Asia, who brings more than 28 years of experience in the IT industry with strong domain knowledge in the entire application life cycle for vertical industries as well as general management. The Singapore office complements two additional Asia Pacific offices, located in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.

Are there any new technologies that will help you in your future growth?

With the impact of social networks on personal and business communication, collaboration and social sharing will be key to the success of organisations moving forward. As companies grow beyond their shores, the need for continued optimization, internal efficiency, real-time decision making, and seamless communication is critical. Cultural, language and geographical barriers add to the complexity of this new world. Collaborative solutions, like Flowdock, help to break those barriers by providing a system to help employees prioritize work and communicate across distributed teams and timezones.
