NETGEAR sustains consumer WLAN market lead: IDC

IDC reports a major increase in combined market shares of consumer and enterprise WLAN market.

Networking solutions firm NETGEAR has maintained its ranking as the number one vendor in consumer WLAN (wireless local area network) devices, according to analyst firm IDC's Worldwide WLAN second quarter 2012 Market Share update.

NETGEAR ASEAN sales manager Tan Wee Fong said the company recorded a market share of 21.8 percent - based on its RM575 million (US$188 million) quarter-based revenue. According to IDC's update, TP-LINK came in second with a market share of 18.9 per cent, followed by Linksys with 10 percent market share. 

"NETGEAR continues to take the lead in the WLAN [or also referred to as 'wi-fi'] devices market with its disruptive technology that truly benefits our end-users," said Tan.

"In this digital age of social media and integrated connectivity everywhere, wireless devices play an essential role for people and business to be on top of all their content and interactions."

"NETGEAR will continue to lead in the transition into the next generation of high-speed wi-fi for homes and businesses," he said.

In addition, IDC's update showed a significant increase in the combined market shares of consumer and enterprise WLAN market with an overall growth of 12.6 percent year-on-year. This increase is the result of the growing use of wi-fi by service providers to offload cellular data traffic, and that the market is expected to stay vibrant for the foreseeable future.
