Polycom, Motorola extend UC capability to tablet

Videoconferencing now possible using Motorola XOOM.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 28 MARCH 2011 – Enterprise users can now do high-definition videoconferencing via the Motorola XOOM tablet because of Polycom’s partnership with Motorola Mobility.

The two companies recently announced the partnership which means that business users can use Polycom’s enterprise-class unified communications (UC) solution on Motorola’s Android tablet.

In a statement, Motorola Mobility said the combination results in improved collaboration and increased productivity.

With Polycom’s telepresence video application on Motorola XOOM tablets, users can also connect to nearly two million standards-based telepresence and video conferencing systems, the companies said.

No additional network configuration

The partnership will also allow Motorola to extend the video communications capability to mobile users “without additional network configuration,” Polycom said.

Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president, software and services product management, Motorola Mobility, said the partnership benefits both enterprises and consumers as “the Motorola XOOM video experience will set a new standard for quality and performance.”
