Nurdianah Md Nur | May 16, 2013
Consumers can start registering to opt out of unsolicited telemarketing messages or calls from 2 January 2014 for free.

The PDPC is also collaborating with other relevant agencies. Working with SPRING, the PDPC will provide SMEs with support and advice to them on personal data protection matters through SPRING's SME Centres. The PDPC is also collaborating with the Workforce Development Agency to roll out data protection training courses by end 2013.

"[PDPC] recognises that organisations need to collect and use data for legitimate purposes and to better serve their customers, [as well as] understand the challenges some organisations may face in preparing to comply with the PDPA. [Thus, we are] committed to working with the industry to address the opportunities and challenges that arise with the implementation of PDPA," said Leong Keng Thai, chairman of PDPC.
