SINGAPORE, 30 MARCH 2011 - Software AG has announced the appointment of David Powell as president, Asia Pacific and Japan.

In this role, Powell will be responsible for all sales and customer relationships of Software AG in the region, and will be based in Sydney Australia, the company announced.

Powell joined Software AG in the UK in March 1995. He held a number of sales and management positions within the company prior to being appointed UK country manager in 2004.

Involved in the IT industry since 1988, Powell spent the early years of his career selling Systems Union's financial software before working in a number of startup software and consulting companies.

Powell's appointment follows the restructuring of Software AG regional management since finalisation of the company's acquisition of IDS Scheer AG in January this year.

In Asia, Errol Mascarenhas, vice president for Asia, will be responsible for the business operations in the region which includes Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Philippines, Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan and Thailand.

It also follows the announcement of record results for Software AG in 2010 - including strong results in Australia and Asia - and the realisation of its growth target to achieve 1 billion Euro in annual revenue by 2012.

"I'm looking forward to life in Australia and to working with the regional team to accelerate Software AG's growth throughout Asia Pacific and Japan" said Powell. "Moving forward, we will focus on growing this part of our business as we see enormous potential for companies throughout the region to improve productivity, service levels and revenue, and to decrease costs, through process improvement."
