Sony Communications AB is launching the Xperia C3, its new smartphone model mid-range in price and optimised for selfies and social media sharing.
The smartphone model is scheduled to launch worldwide this August with China as first stop for its global debut.
A press statement by the Tokyo-based mobile phone manufacturer said the dual SIM Xperia C3 will be Sony's very first "PROselfie Smartphone."
It pointed out that the practice of taking selfies-photos and video clips-is a sociological phenomenon that has increased 17000% globally since 2012.
It further noted that last year, selfie entered the list of words included in the Oxford Dictionary of the English language and it shows no signs of dying down and now, Sony Mobile intends to help shape it with its line of smartphones optimized for the taking of selfie photos and videos.
According to Sony, the Xperia C3 will be powered by a Snapdragon quad-core 1.2 GHz processor with 1GB RAMN and 8 GB flash memory to enable ultrafast performance and very sharp graphics.
The Xperia C3 will support 4G/LTE networks with up to 150 Mbps speed for downloading and up to 50 Mbps for uploading.
Making the Xperia C3 optimised for selfies will be its Proselfiecam technology in its front and main cameras along with camera apps uploaded into the smartphone.
The press statement said the Xperia C3's front camera has a 5MP wide angle lens-25 mm with an 80 degree field of view-enabling users to capture more of themselves in their selfies.
On the other hand, its main camera has Exmor RS image sensor and SteadyShot image stabilization technologies, proprietary technologies developed by Sony Corp.
The first is an image sensor that enables high image quality of pictures in compact devices such as smartphones and tablets; the latter is an image stabilizer for video camcorders and DSLR cameras.
The Xperia C3 will be available in the colours black, white and mint, according to Sony's press statement.
