According to tests by US independent test organisation NSS Labs, cyber security solutions provider Sourcefire Malaysia's next generation firewall protects again 99 percent of attacks.

Sourcefire Malaysia country manager Iwan Web said NSS Labs next generation firewall (NGFW) product analysis includes the industry's most rigorous testing. "The FirePOWER 8250 NGFW sets a new standard for security effectiveness and protection and forms the foundation for Sourcefire's entire portfolio of network security solutions."

"The universal platform enables customers to seamlessly transition from a Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention Systems (NGIPS) to NGIPS with Application Control to a NGFW. And, Sourcefire offers the only NGFW with integrated NGIPS [next generation intrusion prevention system]," said Wen.

He said highlights of NSS Labs analysis included:

- 99 percent protection against attacks on client applications
- 100 percent firewall enforcement
- 100 percent application control
- 100 percent identity/user awareness
- 10 Gbps for real-world traffic throughput (100 percent of vendor-stated performance)
- 15M concurrent connections, the maximum allowed by NSS Labs testing equipment
- Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of US$33 per Mbps protected

"These test results further demonstrate Sourcefire's consistent delivery of the best protection, while meeting or exceeding performance expectations, and validate our innovative platform approach to network security," said Wen.
NSS Labs chief research officer, Bob Walder, said, "To meet today's security challenges, 'next-generation' firewalls that combine firewall capabilities with intrusion IPS and incorporated with the advanced application and user awareness control enables the creation of granular security policies that are capable of operating in a Web 2.0 world."
"By pioneering the most effective security protection available, we've enabled our customers to see, control and protect all of their assets in their dynamic threat and IT environments, all while being mindful of budget and resource constraints."
