Telekom Malaysia extends UniFi to Melaka

AvantiKumar | Aug. 1, 2011
TM's high speed broadband service (HSBB), called UniFi, now available in Melaka, ahead of original 2012 target.

"The state government of Melaka is excited that the HSBB service is now available and can be enjoyed by the communities in Melaka," said the State's chief minister, Mohd Ali. "I really hope that the provisioning of UniFi will encourage the ICT adoption among the local citizens, and it is in line with the state government's aspirations as a green technology city."

Signed in September 2008, the US$3.4 billion (RM11.3 billion) national HSBB project is a public-private-partnership [PPP] agreement between TM and the Malaysian government to develop next-generation high-speed broadband infrastructure and services for the nation. TM is putting up US$2.69 billion (RM8.9 billion) while the government is co-investing US$730 million (RM2.4 billion) on an incurred claims basis based on project milestones reached by TM.
