Travelex has created a new chief digital officer role as it "continues to focus on the development of its online capabilities and commitment to digital transformation", which it described as a key strategic priority for the company.
Sean Cornwell takes up the CDO post, arriving at the foreign exchange specialists with an extensive background in online digital shops. Prior to joining Travel Cornwell was COO at Shutl, the same-day delivery service acquired by eBay in November 2013.
Previously Cornwell was managing director of online dating service eHarmony's international and mobile business, and oversaw the company's investment in rival online dating site eDarling. Cornwell also spent three years at Google as a group product marketing manager.
Travelex chief executive Peter Jackson said: "I am delighted to welcome Sean to the executive team at Travelex. He has all the experience required to ensure we deliver maximum value from our online and mobile channels and drive the use of digital technology to transform the foreign exchange and payments market."
Cornwell, a Cambridge University graduate with an MBA from INSEAD, is also a non-executive director at venture-backed home exchange business LoveHomeSwap.com, and Boticca.com.
