Tripartite collaboration to drive smart services in Iskandar Malaysia

Telekom Malaysia and developers UEM Sunrise and Iskandar Investment have agreed to form a joint venture company to operate 'Smart Services' in Nusajaya, which is one of the Smart Cities in the Iskandar Development project in Johor, Malaysia.

This joint venture is one of the areas that have been identified in the Collaboration Agreement between TM, UEM Sunrise and IIB, which was previously signed in 2012 for the development and management of the 'Smart and Connected Nusajaya.'

Telekom Malaysia group chief executive officer Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said the joint venture company will operate as a managed services company to  design and build the smart city infrastructure as well as provide smart building and smart city services, which will include security services, energy and facility management.

"By leveraging on our extensive high speed converged network infrastructure whether in the last mile, national backhaul or global reach via our international links, expertise in unified communications coupled with proven ICT managed services capabilities and experiences, we are set to elevate Nusajaya into one of the attractive investment destinations in the region," he said.

"The signing today marks another milestone as this is the first collaboration of its kind between a service provider and master developers to provide Smart City infrastructure and services," Zam said.

 Smart ecosystem

UEM Sunrise executive director Dato' Izzaddin Idris, said, "A Smart and Connected Nusajaya Master Plan has been established, which aims to develop Nusajaya into one of the world's leading interconnected smart communities, creating a seamless experience for residents, businesses, and visitors with 'smart facilities' such as homes and offices, hospitals, schools, roads and more."

"The creation of the ecosystem for a smart environment will further unleash the value of Iskandar Malaysia as an attractive investment destination." said Dato' Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, the president / chief executive officer of Iskandar Investment.
