Microsoft's next generation console, Xbox One, registered more than three million in sales in 13 countries for 2013.
The company said it was humbled by the sales figures that included records for the Australian and US markets, and described the reaction from consumers as 'mind-blowing'.
On the company's website Xbox Wire, Microsoft corporate vice-president of marketing, strategy and business, Xbox, Yusuf Mehdi, praised Xbox customers and thanked them for their support. Mehdi also touted the all-in-one nature of the console as contributing to its success. "Millions of hours of live TV have been watched and millions of hours of app entertainment have been enjoyed," Mehdi claimed.
Microsoft spared no expense in launching the new console in November as the Sydney event demonstrated. The investment seems to be paying off with a million units sold within twenty four hours of launch globally.
Microsoft aims to push for even higher sales in the coming year. "We're excited for the year ahead and will be working hard to bring Xbox One to more fans and more markets around the globe. 2014 will be a promising year with many more great games on the way for Xbox One," said Mr Mehdi.
With such a long wait for gamers between launches of new hardware, the sales figures being seen for both the Xbox One and Sony's Playstation 4 should not come as a surprise. Some Australian retailers such as EB Games are waiting on new shipments of both consoles to meet consumer demand.
