Bill Gates paid US$8.7 million ($9.5 million) for his place, which, is believed to have its own horse farm.
Atlassian co-founder and BRW Rich 200 member Mike Cannon-Brookes has long been considered Australia's version of Bill Gates, and this week the similarities got a little bit eerie.
Within the space of a week, Gates and Cannon-Brookes both bought luxury Palm Beach residences for $8.7 million.
Unfortunately, the software entrepreneurs aren't going to be neighbours. Gates's new house is in Palm Beach, Florida, while Cannon-Brookes's is in the wealthy hamlet of Palm Beach, north of Sydney.
Cannon-Brookes's new house befits a multi-millionaire. It has been described as being akin to a "small, private hotel".

Cannon-Brookes debuted on the Rich 200 this year with an estimated personal fortune of $250 million. His wealth comes from leading software company Atlassian, which Cannon-Brookes co-owns with fellow Rich 200 debutante Scott Farquhar .
Cannon-Brookes also owns other residential properties in Sydney, where his company is based. According to the LJ Hooker website, his new house is available for rent for $30,000 per week.

Despite the big price tag, he may have got it cheap. The property was last sold in 2010 for $10 million.
Gates paid US$8.7 million ($9.5 million) for his place. It doesn't have the same harbour views but sits on about nine times as much land as Cannon-Brookes's. It is located in a popular showjumping area and is believed to have its own horse farm. Gates's daughter Jennifer rides horses and has previously resided in nearby rented properties.
In May, Gates reclaimed the titled of the world's richest person and is worth $76.7 billion, according to Bloomberg.
