According to OpenNet, there are about 380,000 fibre broadband subscribers in Singapore as of end June 2013.
Just in June alone, there were over 31,000 new subscribers, surpassing May's subscription record of 23,236.
Daniel Ho, director of Business Development and Communications at OpenNet, attributed the high demand to the "promotion of fibre broadband packages greater than 100Mbps" by the Internet Service Providers (ISPs), especially at the PC Show in early June.
Responding to the unprecedented demand
To meet the unprecedented surge in demand for fibre connections, OpenNet is working closely with its key sub-contractor to increase its installation capacity accordingly, said Ho.
OpenNet has already added temporary installation capacity of more than 2,000 per week and Saturday installation capacity until end July 2013. By next week, OpenNet will also increase its regular installation capacity by more than 30 percent.
