Yet more companies are working on their partnerships to be able to deliver cloud services to more customers.
This time, it is Dimension Data Asia Pacific of South Africa's Dimension Data and Hong Kong's Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) who are forging a partnership under a "onecloud" brand of portfolio of services.
The portfolio of cloud and hosted managed services will be offered to the Hong Kong business and corporate market where HGC offers fixed-line services while Dimension Data offers ICT services and solutions.
onecloud is Dimension Data's brand introduced in October 2010. Dimension Data has already forged partnerships with other telecommunications providers in the region to offer the portfolio of services.
In India, Dimension Data is working with BSNL, India's largest telecom service provider, to build and operate six data centres across the country. In the Philippines, Dimension Data is working with Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Company (PLDT), the country's top telecommunications company, and Microsoft Philippines to offer the services.
In Hong Kong, Dimension Data and HGC are encouraged by the expected surge in the adoption of cloud computing in the Asia Pacific where Hong Kong is considered as one of the business hubs.
"Enterprises today are rapidly moving to cloud computing, driven by virtualisation. To embark on the cloud journey, they need a strategic ICT partner that can offer end-to-end cloud competencies - from data centre operations to integration to managing their IT assets," said Dilip Kumar, chief operating officer, Dimension Data Asia Pacific. "The strong synergy between both our companies will enable us to help these enterprises accelerate their transition to cloud computing."
Kumar has reason to be optimistic as different independent market industries have showed that the region is geared for rapid adoption of cloud computing this year.
IDC said last April that "the use of cloud technologies for IT infrastructure is expected to accelerate rapidly in 2011." AMI-Partners said last March that small and medium-sized businesses are expected to take the lead in cloud services adoption, particularly in key markets such as China and India.
Under the partnership, Dimension Data and HGC will initially launch secure enterprise cloud hosting services, business continuity and disaster recovery services, enterprise class e-mail and collaboration services based on Microsoft technologies. They will also provide technology, operations and management capabilities for dedicated hosting of private cloud environments.
Eventually, the portfolio of services will be extended to various other software-as-a-service (SaaS) to cater to the enterprise and SMB markets, as well as for specific vertical industries.
Peter Wong, chief executive officer of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings, of which HGC is a part of, said HGC is in a position to offer cloud services that can use their network infrastructure in Hong Kong.
