Amdocs-a customer experience solutions provider-together with Philippine-based Globe Telecom won the Best Payment Solution Deployments in Asia for 2015 at the recent Mobile Money & Digital Payments Global event held in Istanbul, Turkey.
The award is given to Globe's GCash service, which is powered by Amdocs Mobile Financial Services solution.
GCash enables customers in the Philippines to use locally issued prepaid cards linked to mobile wallets to make online payments, cash withdrawals from any ATM, and transact at any MasterCard merchant globally.
In addition, the GCash service allows customers to receive remittances directly to their mobile wallet. The GCash MasterCard also has "beep" features that enable payments for Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) tickets.
According to Albert Tinio, Chief Executive Officer of G-Xchange, Inc., a mobile payments subsidiary of Globe Telecom which operates GCash: "Seventy-five percent of Filipinos today are unbanked, and given that only three percent of the population has credit cards, a lot of people still don't have access to online payments nor can they perform transactions in the digital space."
"With Amdocs' technology, our innovative GCash and GCash beep services have helped us overcome a lot of these market challenges without the need for a traditional bank account," he added.
"This award recognises Amdocs' and Globe Telecom's ability to continually innovate and deliver the most comprehensive mobile financial services solutions that drive financial inclusion and adoption of mobile wallet services," said Patrick McGrory, division president for Amdocs emerging offerings.
