F.Y. Teng | Jan. 12, 2012
Industry veteran Joe Ong now heads the storage vendor’s local operations.

One of the world’s more prominent storage solutions vendors, Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) named Wednesday (January 11) industry veteran Joe Ong its new Singapore Managing Director. Ong arrives at HDS with just about two decades of experience in the IT industry, a substantial number of those years in the storage solutions business.

An HDS spokesman points to Ong’s appointment as an indicative of “the company’s commitment to provid[ing] greater support to local customers, meeting local growth objectives and extending its market share in Singapore.” Ong will be “providing overall leadership and guidance on business direction, including go-to-market strategies for the country.”

“I am very excited about this new opportunity and believe that my extensive experience in the industry will help grow the company’s presence in Singapore,” said Ong. “The country’s high rate of Internet and mobile penetration will continue to drive the explosive growth of unstructured data. This presents a huge opportunity for businesses to create competitive advantage through effective data access and management. I look forward to helping customers overcome these data challenges and make the best of this opportunity in the coming years."
